3 Easy steps to use Instagram Highlights
In today's post, we're going to talk about how to use Instagram highlights. Lately, Instagram has released a feature which is called Instagram Highlights that now you can have in your Instagram feed.
It's permanent so it doesn't go after 24 hours like an Instagram Story or an Instagram live video, that you have recorded and then saved in your story for people to see later.
This feature is really great because it gives you the opportunity to brand a little more your Instagram Feed/Profile; giving your followers a better overall brand experience.
So, let's see how we can take advantage of that!
First things first, if you don't know how to use the feature, I'll give you a little step by step on how you can start using it.
1.first of all, you need to upload a photo or video to your Instagram story.
On your Instagram Feed click on the Camera Icon. Once you have uploaded a photo or video into your Instagram story. Go back to you Stories and look for the little Heart Icon.
You will see it at the right bottom corner of the photo or video.
2. Click on that heart to highlight that photo or video that you just uploaded.
If you don't have any albums create one, it's going to prompt you with a question if you would like to create one.
3. Create your Highlight.
You can create several albums for different categories or topics.
You can use the same topics or categories that you have on your website and have them replicated in your Instagram feed.
If you don't have a website, you can still do it by categorizing all the posts that you do.
For example, create an album for all your motivational quotes. If you're a food blogger, you can create Albums/Highlights with sweet recipes, savory recipes, etc.
In my case, on the screenshot below you can see how I have them organized based on the characters I draw and a highlight Album similar to an About Me page.
You can use this feature to organize the different posts that you do throughout the week or throughout the month within your Instagram feed.
So once you have created that mini album, which is the Instagram Highlights, you can select a cover for it.
That is when hand-illustrated elements come into place because you can have designed for you a cover for each of those topics that you want to highlight in your Instagram feed.
This will make it recognizable to your followers and people who see your profile.
They will know quickly what are your main topics, what you like to talk about and what your brand is all about.
Also, a great thing that you can do is to have a mini About Me highlights, so you can post a picture of yourself and then another post in the same about me category of the things that you like or your hobbies and things like that so people can get to know a bit more about you.
That is a really great way to connect with your following!
Also with Instagram highlights, you can showcase the content from your Blog. You can create or have designed for you, branded templates for this feature so that everything looks consistent.
As I mentioned before, one great thing about this feature is that Instagram highlights don't go away after 24 hours, so you still have them in your feed and it won't expire.
If people don´t see your IG Stories, they can go back into your different Highlights and see what you have been up to, what are the things you are working on lately or what you have posted recently.
Let me know what you think about this feature, How are you using it? How it has served your brand. Let me know in the comments below!
Till next time!
